Here’s who we are.

First, the name. It’s pronounced “gamer,” and, at heart, that’s what we are. The founders of this shindig have a pretty common back story, but then, so do most gamers — contrary to popular thought, gaming is a highly social thing. Our particular passion for gaming was forged in summer-long nightly LAN parties and, since firing up that first match of Half-Life Deathmatch, we’ve never looked back.  Our site is designed to mold gaming news, reviews, and original features with our singularly sharp perspectives. We wield irreverence and deploy pictorial mockery to bring you our unique take on gaming culture. Sometimes most of what we have to say will simply be in the headline image.

At any rate, what you’ll get from our team is honest, unfiltered gaming editorial, just the way we like it.

Here’s what we do.

News

We’ll be straight: Our goal is not to be the ultimate news aggregation site. We try to comb through the mess of gaming news out there to bring the most worthy and exciting bits to our readership. You’ll probably notice over time that we tend to like stories that inspire a ridiculous “photoshopped” headline image.

We listen to our readership carefully. If you think we should be reporting about a particular subject more often, you should let us know.

Reviews

We approach reviews with a few simple commitments:

  • We will review each game with a play-through that represents the typical experience. With the exception of non-completable games such as MMOs, you can rest assured that we’ve played games to a thorough extent that covers the typical experience one can expect.
  • We will never sell reviews, or compromise our ratings. While we pride ourselves on being irreverent goofballs, we will never compromise the integrity of our reviews based on pressure or influence from advertisers. Furthermore, if we ever do receive such pressure, we’ll make it public. We take this oath very seriously — we do this because we love gaming, and we’d rather write an honest review than cash a tainted check.
  • Reviewers get the final say. While editors may check reviews for quality control (like, making sure those exclamation marks are in the right places), we will never “edit” a reviewer’s perspective.
  • We give every reviewed game a fair shot.

We don’t believe in a purely “objective” standpoint, and encourage our readers and writers to interpret the material with their own voice. Benchmarks for happiness are relative, and we don’t presume to know what’s best for everyone ‒ we leave it up to you to decide for yourself. Finally, we don’t assign a numerical score to games that we review. We hope you can come to a decision based solely on the brilliant gameplay narratives we present.

Community

While we take pride in our front-page content, we have a great setup for community discussion and networking. In fact, we have a pretty robust social platform in place where you can create your own profile, add friends, create and join groups, and engage in community discussion. Give it a spin! Here are some key reasons why we think you’ll like it here:

  • Our #1 rule: Always Be Yourself, Unless You Suck. With the exception of a few no-no’s, we don’t censor our members. Unlike some other popular sites of late, we think a free and open place is the best kind, and we’re all about empowering our community to engage with one another in their own way.
  • Familiar features, without all the Farmville crap. Here, you can create a personal profile, add friends, create and join groups, and not be bothered by ridiculous “applications” that exist solely to suck up your personal information. Here, you can join a niche community to talk about games (or whatever else you want), with people that think like you.
  • Site-wide “microblogging” features so you can keep up with the entire community.
  • A unique approach to community discussion. Here, forums are structured around groups, to create a more user-directed conversation.
